What Does The 12 On The Alabama Helmet Mean?

Sherlock Holmes

A film by Guy Ritchie. With Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly, Hans Matheson, Eddie Marsan, James Fox.

"I'm not drunk,

otherwise are just plain"

(Sherlock Holmes)

After the screening, out of the room, do not worry if feel a slight, but persistent, feeling dizzy. It will be the likely side effect of almost two hours of amazing adventures and frenetic action of the most famous detective. The indomitable Sherlock Holmes returns to the cinema, pledged to fight the forces of the occult in the late nineteenth century London, a dark gray and shrouded in mystery (a stereotypical image of the capital now far from that today, but well suited to the climate of the investigations of Sherlock Holmes).

Guy Ritchie, known by the more mundane as a former husband of Madonna, has the merit of a film packed with strong visual impact and truly spectacular, admittedly, but above all to be able to constantly keep up the pace of the narrative, despite a screenplay definitely not up to his directorial skills and those of the main character. So much so that within the first minute the plot, in fact, has already exhausted all possibility of surprise, and main feature of every masterpiece, the ability to worry and doubt to emerge in the viewer. Stored, and then from the outset, an affirmative answer to the classic question: " Will our heroes to defeat the forces of evil that threaten the glorious British Empire? , "we can certainly let go of the immediacy actions and the enjoyment they are capable of comedy characters. First of all the Holmes, eccentric, constantly over the top and almost unable to control his exceptional ability. By bohemian life, messy, capricious and stubborn, Holmes knows how to complete his intellectual capacity with the ability to lead hands. A shoulder to make him a fascinating Watson (I had always thought of as a gentleman, but in middle age, with bacon and watch in the pocket of his waistcoat), measured but capable of unexpected flashes of intuition and action, victim-accomplice fraternal companion in adventure. To complete the picture, the beauty of the moment, Irene Adler, diabolical and passionate, the only one capable of seducing Holmes to make it harmless. The films of Guy Ritchie , thanks to the acting talents of Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams, and then re-read and offers us a particularly difficult re-actualization of the character created by Herzog, crafting two hours of entertainment pure, and are hit from the hectic pace, the only flaw that might have to endure the blinding flash of an old street photographer.

Small side note. The struggle of Sherlock Holmes reminded me of an interesting movie, unfortunately, passed in absolute silence in Italian cinemas a couple years ago: Invincible Werner Herzog, set in Berlin in the years to power of Nazism. Again the screen is held in a struggle with the powers of the occult and magic, but with very different special effects and a very different rhythm. And above all, with results very reassuring for us, as a victory in this case is not good, but the banality of evil. If you are passionate about the topic then I suggest you, after the action packed with Holmes, to recover a bit 'of discussion with Herzog's film.
