Soul Kitchen (Germany 2009)

A film by Fatih Akin. By Adam Bousdoukos, Moritz Bleibtreu, Birol Ünel, Anna Bederke, Pheline Roggan.

- Food for the Soul, Soul Kitchen.

- I like it!

The attempt is ambitious comedy with seasoning the charm of the kitchen and the intriguing rhythm of soul music. Zinos is a young immigrant from the greek love life and work definitely messed up, but capable of being carried away by the life and many possibilities offering. Every day. Arriving in Hamburg has invested all his money in an old industrial building, installing an unpretentious restaurant, whose sole mission feed is a clientele of local workers, as a few claims in terms of quality and variety of dishes. To give the turning point of his place, the realm of frozen foods and fried foods, and consequently his life, arrives Shayn, cook eclectic and uncompromising in terms of culinary creativity and respect. As in any good story that respects then interweave various elements: a wayward brother, an old friend delinquent young punk, tax officials, and finally a new love, all to dress a clever script and a directorial style essential to the service of history. In short, all the ingredients that make a romantic comedy Soul Kitchen, found by the intelligent and a fast pace as the songs of the beautiful soundtrack. Excellent interpretation of Adam Bousdoukos, real greek Hamburg, which gives substance to a story that fails to address even the most challenging issues such as integration and a sense of belonging. And now, because their dreams are more difficult if you are immigrants, far from home. Soul Kitchen is becoming a special place, a crossroad of races and of many different human types. This atmosphere and the ability to share will be crucial, firstly to Zinos, to overcome uncertainty and trouble, to a worthy conclusion. Zinos and his friends have shown us that insecurity of modern life, the fragility and individualism can be tackled together, with an amused smile and the look in love. As in Shayn recipes, so even this film succeeds in not entirely predictable, simple elements to recombine with each other to transform into a delicious dish and form a very inviting. Avoiding what often happens in the finest restaurants, where the enjoyment of tasting of beautiful plates does not follow almost never pleasant feeling of having eaten their fill and perhaps we withdraw, for a more substantial after-meal in a tavern a bit 'shabby but certainly more sincere. And 'this is precisely the atmosphere that reigns at Soul Kitchen and Zinos which is rightly proud.
